Research On The Organizational Structure Change Of A Company Based On Diagnosis On The Span Of Control

With A company's organization structure reforms in depth,the workload of management at all levels increased along with the increased business,which evolved into the company's development bottleneck.Based on the diagnosis result,the article raise out the view of the direction on A company's organization structure change by analyzing and calculating company's management span.The article uses Graicunas Method and Lockheed Method to measure the span of control of A company's leadership at different levels.Graicunas Method is to calculate the sum of relationship between superior and subordinate,using the sum of span of control and span of controlled.Lockheed method is to calculate the weight on the influence of workload of six major variables such as functional similarity,functional complexity etc.According to comparison table between the standard value of span of control and influence weight,span of control can be concluded.Finally,the article uses the theory of structure entropy to test the effectiveness on measurement result of the span of control from the perspective of the timeliness and accuracy of information.By diagnosis of span of control,the paper found the managers with imbalance of span of control.This paper proposes the direction of organizational structure change from company-wide,sector-wide and top manager level.Company-wide organizational restructuring can be several matrix structures;at the sector-wide level,trying increasing the levels of management or a re-integration of business management can reduce the span;at top manager level,reducing a management level to reduce the distance information transmission is available,as well as increasing assistants for supervision or control is helpful for wider span of control.
