Transportation is the basis for spatial contact.A well-developed transportation network system is a prerequisite for promoting the flow of production factors in the region.Based on an ever-evolving and improved transportation network system,The Yangtze River Delta,Pearl River Delta and other regions have achieved highly efficient intra-regional factors,which have strengthened the cooperation within regions and they have developed into an important urban agglomeration in China.With the propose of the regional integration strategy,Wuhan metropolitan has always taken the transportation infrastructure construction as an important basis for enhancing the overall competitiveness of the city circle,the well-developed road network has shortened the travel time between cities and enhanced the convenience of urban spatial connections.It has also reshaped the economic structure within the city circle.Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to analyze the changes and interactions between traffic and economy in Wuhan metropolitan area.Based on the research progress of the traffic accessibility and urban economic linkages,with data from 1995,2005,and 2012,using space syntactic model and economic linkage gravity model,this paper analyzed the characteristics of accessibility and economic linkage within the Wuhan metropolitan area from the perspective of spatio-temporal evolution,it also discussed the relationship between the two characteristics.We found that:(1)The characteristics of temporal and spatial evolution of road network accessibility:With the completion of the highway and the provincial road network in Wuhan metropolitan area,the grade structure and spatial structure of roads tend to be perfect,and the accessibility of road network in the region has improved significantly.but space difference does exist.As a whole,there is a clear core-periphery pattern centered on Wuhan,and there are some low-access area on the edge of the metropolitan.(2)The evolution characteristics of the spatial-temporal pattern of economic linkages:In the study period,the economic linkages between cities has strengthened a lot within the metropolitan area,showing a multiple growth in numbers.Similar to road network accessibility pattern,the main axis of economic linkage spatially appeares as a radial pattern centered on Wuhan;each city's economic linkage centrality in the metropolitan significantly improved,at the municipal level,the spatial pattern of the centrality has not changed much,while at the county level,there has been a large change,and the central region has become more and more central,the status of the edge cities on both sides of the north and south has been lagging behind.(3)After 2005,there is a certain correlation between road network accessibility and economic links in Wuhan city circle,the road network spatial structure has an impact on the reshaping of urban spatial linkage pattern in the metropolitan.The economic linkages between cities are not only related to accessibility of their own road network accessibility,but also affected by the accessibility of road networks in neighboring counties and cities.On the whole,the road network structure and economic linkage pattern of Wuhan metropolitan area has promoted each other and jointly promoted the integrated development of Wuhan metropolitan.
