Shibusawa Eiichi,a Japanese entrepreneur who was active in the Meiji era and the early Showa period,was not only hailed as the “father of Japanese capitalism” but also the first industrialist that granted the title of “Baron”.He had made a great contribution to the modernization of Japan,it's said that the number of enterprises he was involved exceed 500 and more than 600 charities were closely associated with him,but he did not allow his children to inherit any of his causes until his death.This paper aims to explore the concept of “public interest and welfare” throughout his life.Based on previous studies,this paper tries to employ the method of document research and case study through Biography of Shibusawa Eiichi,the books Shibusawa Eiichi has wrote and published,and his life experiences including a series of activities that involved with him to reveal his public welfare thought,which further confirms that Shibusawa Eiichi is an industrialist who regards the social responsibility and public benefit as his duty but rather subsumed self-interest.This paper consists of five parts: the first part mainly focuses on the existing research achievements at home and abroad.The second part interprets the concept of “public welfare”.Moreover,the third part highlights its formation background.The fourth part mainly analyzes the content and characteristics of the public interests and welfare.The fifth part sums up the influence and the modern significance of Shibusawa Eiichi's public interest and welfare concept.
