Electronic commerce which is electronic transaction via the internet has the ability to improve efficiency and productivity in many areas of the economy,and therefore,has received significant attention in many countries.Unfortunately,there has been some doubt about the importance of ecommerce for developing countries like Benin.The adoption of electronic commerce by small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs)is a subject that has been studied by numerous authors due to the modernization of ICTs and the emergence of social mobile devices and social media networks such as than Facebook and Instagram.In Benin,ecommerce is becoming more viable as public access to smartphone technology increases.Electronic commerce is a unique opportunity to access international markets for small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs)from least developed countries(LDCs)such as Benin.A significant number of SMEs in Benin have adopted electronic commerce,even if in the country,EC is still at an embryonic stage.The challenges of adopting e-commerce in Benin for small and medium-sized businesses are twofold due to the exponential growth of digital technology which is no longer to be neglected and the effect of e-commerce on businesses and in particular consumers.This research document attempts to demonstrate the importance of electronic commerce and its impact on the trade performance of SMEs in Benin.Variables such as organizational readiness,pressure from customers / suppliers,etc.are expected to affect the adoption of electronic commerce by SMEs.The quantitative approach followed in this study and an indepth review of the literature were carried out to find the relationship between these variables in the adoption of electronic commerce.An online survey was shared among 50 companies and a frequency analysis was adopted to find the results of this study.The results indicate that there is a positive relationship between business performance and the development of electronic commerce within SMEs.Factors such as perceived benefits,IT strategy,competitive and eternal pressure are important for EC within Beninese SMEs.They are followed by a relative advantage and other factors that have been shown to have a marginally significant relationship with the development of electronic commerce by SMEs.
