The Design And Implemention Of SIP Tester Prototype Based On TRex

Network testing is one of the key to communications systems developing and network performance monitoring,and play a importnat role in most professional network testers.Based on the open source software TRex and an embedded switch,this thesis presents a design and development of a universal tester prototype,which uses Session Initiation Protocol(SIP)as a use case for conformance testing and stress testingThe functional architecture and application scenarios of TRex,and the technical specifications of SIP protocol are firstly analyzed in the thesis.Based on the requirements of protocol conformance and performance testing,the testing mode is designed and testing evaluation matrices are providedSecondly,a SIP tester prototype is designed and developed by combining with the stateful mode of TRex.The prototype system mainly includes four modules:testing case generation,functional interface,data analysis and user control.The stateless testing functions implemented by the prototype system include:(a)the sending and recycling of probe packets,(b)collecting the responses of the device under testing,and(c)expection judgment on the responses.The stateful testing functions include:(a)automatic construction of interactive probe packets,and(b)continuous detection at the transaction level.The software bugs of TRex in dynamc constructing probes have been traced and two solutions are provided alsoFinally,SIP testing are performed by the prototype system.The conformance testing of a SIP user agent and a SIP proxy server have been carried out successfully in registration and session initiation scenarios.In addition,the stress testing of a SIP proxy reveals the upper bound of its call processing capability.As a result,the developed tester is verified applicable for employment.
