With the continuous development of optical computing technology in recent years, and the technology of ternary optical computer prototypes has become increasingly mature, which places higher requirements on the computing capabilities of ternary optical computers. Therefore, the project of this paper focuses on the problems of multi-digit multiplication operations of ternary optical computers at the current stage, which are inefficient and difficult to achieve fast multiplication operations. The research content of this article is as follows:Based on One-step MSD(Modefied Signed-Digit)adder,M operator,MSD multiplication principle and divide-and-conquer strategy,a scheme to implement multi-digit fast multiplication operations on ternary optical computer is proposed.Based on the strategy,a 4-bit minimum module is designed and implemented, which can perform 4-digit multiplication. And multiple minimum modules can perform operations in parallel.Based on this minimum module, the expansion scheme is proposed to achieve fast multiplication without digit limitation. The paper elaborates on the design principle, operation steps, optical path structure and expansion scheme of the minimum module. The performance comparison and analysis of the ternary optical computer multiplier designed by this scheme are compared with the existing ternary optical computer and electronic computer multiplier. The results show that the MSD multiplier based on the minimum module is better than the other multipliers in the processing of multi-digit multiplication. It can give full play to the advantages of ternary optical computer giant data-bits.It has more practical application significance. The existing ternary optical computer experimental platform SD11 is used to verify the design scheme of the proposed ternary optical processor MSD multiplier based on the minimum module. This experiment proves the correctness and practical feasibility of this scheme. The innovations of the paper are as follows:(1)Designed and implemented a 4-bit minimum module. It can complete 4-digit multiplication, and multiple minimum modules can complete the operation in parallel. The minimum module can be used as the basic operation unit of multiplication in ternary optical computer.(2)Based on the above 4-bit minimum module,a detailed expansion scheme is proposed.According to the expansion scheme, fast multiplication without digit limit can be implemented on the ternary optical computer. The experiment proves that this scheme is feasible and has practical significance.
