Emerging adulthood mainly refers to the period between the ages of 18 to 25,which is a unique life stage. For this period, children of the family leave their home to explore the possibilities of life and they are freed from their dependence on their parents as minors. But they have not started a new family life yet so they still need their parents' emotional and financial support. At the same time, the emerging adults are digital natives who have grown up with the development of the Internet while their parents are digital immigrants,so the communication between the two generations not only has the distinct characteristics of the digital era but also contains the intergenerational conflicts and dilemmas brought about by social changes. As Marshall Mc Luhan says, every new medium that opens up new ways for humans to perceive and understand the world, creates new social behaviors.Compared with traditional communication media such as letter and telephone, digital media is unprecedented mobility, interaction and multimedia. We Chat,an important communication tool at present, combines the characteristics of previous communication media, and creates its own unique communication function, reshape the time and space of intergenerational communication and change the way of communication between generations. Therefore, this paper takes the emerging adults and their parents as the research objects to explore the influence of their We Chat use on their intergenerational communication. This paper adopts questionnaire survey and in-depth interview as the main research methods.First of all,the questionnaire survey is conducted to verify that use of We Chat has an impact on intergenerational communication. The influencing factors of We Chat use on intergenerational communication are divided into use degree(frequency and duration of communication),use function(function used in communication),use motivation(based on which mechanism to choose to use wechat communication),feedback willingness and demographic factors, and these factors are explored Impact of communication satisfaction. Then, using Melowitz's idea of “new media new scene new behavior”for reference, this paper discusses the situational characteristics of We Chat as a structure of intergenerational communication and its specific impact on the interaction behavior through in-depth interviews and quantitative data from the questionnaire survey, and analyzes the problems of intergenerational communication in the use of We Chat from the perspective of technical criticism. The results show that the satisfaction of female in the initial stage of adult is higher than that of male;the satisfaction of undergraduate is higher than that of undergraduate, and the satisfaction of students is higher than that of most of the working groups;the satisfaction of using function, emotional motivation and feedback willingness are positively correlated with the satisfaction of communication.Wechat has created a virtual space scene and a ceremonial communication situation for parents and their children, and has an impact on the communication behaviors of " the front stage"," the back stage " and "the central district " between generations. The “front stage” interaction between the two generations presents the characteristics of ritualization and performance. In order to improve the quality of communication,it is necessary for the children to provide technical feedback to their parents in the “back stage”.In addition, due to the mixed scene characteristics of the circle of friends, the children appear new "central district" behavior when they reveal themselves.Although the use of We Chat has a beneficial effect on intergenerational communication, the generation gap between parents and their children still exists in a convenient communication tool and in a long distance of time and space. At the same time, the We Chat instant messaging function has the potential of "intrusion",which may bring confusion in the physical space of both parties,so the impact of media technology on intergenerational communication needs to be dialectically viewed.
