Non-photorealistic rendering technology(Non-Photorealistic Rendering,NPR)is an important part of computer graphics, and its goal is to simulate and reproduce the artistic style. The stylized abstract method generally achieves the transformation of artistic style by highlighting the main characteristics of the target thing, weakening unnecessary details, and describing the object with simple and clear lines and textures with artistic beauty.Existing technologies can simulate oil paintings and ink paintings.,Pencil drawing, cartoon and other style works of art. This article introduces the development research status of non-photorealistic rendering, reviews the main non-photorealistic rendering technologies in this field, and further discusses the role of visual saliency in art creation, and gives some classic saliency detection method. On this basis, this paper proposes a rendering framework that automatically converts images or videos into oil painting style based on visual salience.Experimental results show that using this framework can better simulate the oil painting style brush stroke effect and has good robustness. The main innovative work of this paper is reflected in the following aspects:1.Because the anisotropic Kuwahara filter can produce a smooth area similar to the stroke effect,it is suitable for generating oil paintings such as works of art with obvious strokes. However, the current filtering method usually uses a fixed-size filtering kernel, resulting in a single filtering scale. In response to this problem, the article proposes a multi-scale Kuwahara filtering method based on visual saliency, which uses the saliency as control information to adjust the size of the filter kernel in real time, resulting in rich and varied strokes.2.Due to the unique texture characteristics of oil paintings, most of this style of drawing work uses stroke-based drawing and style transfer methods based on depth features. This paper proposes a method that uses edge gradients, edge direction fields, and salient information as bump mapping control parameters The method not only can better simulate the texture style of oil painting, but also has better inter-frame continuity when processing video, making up for the deficiencies of existing algorithms.
