NPR(Non-photorealistic Rendering) becomes more and more popular in recent 10 years, which challenges the view of the photorealistic goal of computer graphics, and makes graphics more selective, personal and artistic, providing graphics with more goals and choices of diversity.Stippling and its diversity are a part of artistic rendering of NPR field. Artistic rendering pursues the personal and artistic presentation of graphics, which mostly imitates the present artistic forms and natural media to help create artistic graphics and images more conveniently.Stippling, as a kind of western traditional drawing technique, gives the impression of tones by the density of stipples carefully placed by the artist, and needs long-time working and patience to accomplish. The goal of the thesis is to implement real-time stippling with diversity through computer to save the energy for artists.Before writing the thesis, scientists in stippling mainly design and optimize the algorithm to draw stippling from grayscale images by using Computational Geometry to implement the distribution of stipples in density of variety. In the thesis, a fast algorithm of randomly distributing stipples is proposed to generate stippling from images. The algorithm produces stippling drawings with run-time high quality by defining the Stipple Model (Data Structure) and different density distributing function, which could provide both the stipples themselves with diversity and the stippling images with variety to bring more artistic impression, and using randomly distributing strategy, which guarantees fast stippling generation with high quality. And an algorithm of drawing stippling from 3d geometry is also proposed, which first constructs particles from the visible-surface of geometry, project the particles to view plane, and then draw stipples according to stipple model to produce stippling.
