Single-cycle or sub-cycle narrow pulses have a very wide spectrum and it is an important part of UWB technology. At the same time, its production and transmission are also one of the key technologies of ultra-wideband.In addition, using ultra-short pulse to achieve the atom's internal quantum state manipulation and other new technologies by time-frequency analysis method has gradually become the focus of microwave research. Therefore,it is necessary to implement real-time pulse time-frequency analysis quickly and efficiently, that is,to integrate the data acquisition, data transmission, data processing,time-frequency analysis, and display of the results of the transient pulse signal waveform. The system could also simplify the time-frequency analysis of UWB pulses. This paper mainly focuses on the characteristics of ultra-wideband pulse such as narrow pulse and wide spectrum, which combined with the application requirements of time-frequency analysis of ultra-wideband sub-cycle pulse and the design concept of virtual instrument, and realizes the design and application of sub-cycle microwave pulse real-time analysissystem. The system utilizes high-speed oscilloscope in sampling and recording an ultra-short microwave pulse, with control and real-time time-frequency chirp analysis realized via LabVIEW and Matlab programming. The design and materialization of the system, together with its typical applications, are presented.Tests and applications prove the system to be of good stability and temporal response, and easy to build and maintain.Compared to conventional analysis systems, the presented system is more flexible, granting it good potential in various applications.
