Printed circuit board(PCB for short)is an essential part of the electronic products,with the development of technology and the growth of the application domain,Nowadays,the dimension of PCB becomes smaller and smaller,and function is enhanced,which makes the requirements of design become more and more complicated.So the failure mode in the PCB design process is not detected before final release,which increases the product design cycle and the cost extremely.Therefore,this paper aims at the problems existing in the traditional process of PCB design,the tools of Failure Mode And Effects Analysis(FMEA for short),and research on the system optimization method during PCB design.In the process of new PCB research and development,according to the possibility of the potential failure mode and its effect on PCB design,the classification list is created,and a set of system optimization method are established.According to the value of Risk Priority Number(RPN for short),the optimization measures should be adopted if the value of RPN is higher than the specified value.The optimization measures include: using the simulation tool;training the capability for PCB design staff;making the design rule;EMC test;reliability test and so on.These measures can eliminate the severity of the failure mode or lower failure effect,and improve the reliability of design and reduce the defect of frequency.All the data are recorded,and the FMEA forms and documentation are controllable and can be traced.These will provide reference for subsequent design.Finally an example is demonstrated to verify the optimized PCB performance which meets the requirements.As a matter of fact,the PCB optimization design by applying FMEA,increase he pass rate of PCB debug and test significantly.In industry application,the efficiency of the product development is obviously improved,and the product development and manufacture cycle and cost are reduced.Then the cost and performance of the products are more competitive.
