With the development of general-purpose processors toward multicore trend,traditional electronic NoC shows disadvantages including bad expansibility,restricted bandwidth and high power consumption.While optical NoC technologies have advantages in bandwidth,latency and loss,overcoming the problems of electrical NoC.But optical NoC can't make up the overhead of arbitration when the distance of communication is near and data size is small.As a result,it's very meaningful to research about hybrid optical-electronic NoC by combining the advantages of electrical NoC and optical NoC.With the base of researching and analyzing about optical NoC topologies,aiming at the problem of high power consumption,the paper presented an optical NoC topology with the idea that small size optical bus NoC consumes less power.With the method that replacing big size optical bus with many small size optical buses,our optical NoC topology can reduce the power consumption and provide low-cost optical channel for long-distance communications.Aiming at handling the problem of big overhead of optical NoC in short-distance communication,this paper presented a hybrid optical-electronic NoC topology HOPinwheel basing on optical Pinwheel and electronic Mesh,and designed communication-distance-based algorithm,providing fast and low-overhead channel for both long-distance communications and short-distance communications.Aiming at the problem that network congestion will arise more power consumption and worse performance,this paper designed a mechanism of congestion information transmission,and presented a congestion-perceived hybrid optical-electronic adaptive routing algorism,which transmits data with neighbor optical nodes which is not congested or electrical network,reducing the power consumption and promoting the communication performance.Using the NoC modeling too DESENT,this paper extracted the performance parameters of electric and optical devices,and embedded them into JADE many-core simulator,to construct a hybrid optical-electronic NoC simulation platform for verifying the performance of proposed hybrid optical-electronic topology.When the network got saturated in 12×12 topology scale,compared with EMesh,HOPinwheel reduced power consumption by 45.2%,reduced latency by 79.5% and promoted throughput by 60.2%.When the network get saturated in Hotspot traffic model,compared with communication-distance based routing algorithm,congestion-perceived hybrid optical-electronic routing algorithm reduced power consumption by 26.2%,reduced latency by 74.4%,promoted throughput by 37.6%.
