Wireless Underground Sensor Network(WUSN)is a sensor network that most of the sensor nodes buried underground. At present, the wireless underground sensor network is an emerging market and promising research area, such as soil condition monitoring, earthquake and landslide prediction, underground infrastructure monitoring and more.Because the underground transmission medium includes soil, rock and sand, the traditional electromagnetic wave and acoustic wave transmission have dynamic channel conditions, antenna size design and multipath loss problem.Unlike electromagnetic wave communication technology, when using the underground magnetic induction technology for data transmission,it can exert a stable effect even in a severe soil environment.Since most of the nodes distributes underground,it consumes manpower and financial resources to deploy sensors. Therefore, simulation becomes an important way to research wireless underground sensor networks. However, the current simulation software does not exist magnetic induction communication module,so we use NS2 to expand a magnetic induction communication model. This thesis uses the magnetic induction technology to realize the signal transmission,we analyze the soil structure and the circuit original to establish the underground magnetic induction channel model and give a detailed derivation process for the signal transmission attenuation model. From soil dielectric properties, magnetic permeability, operating frequency, winding turns of coils, antenna angle and other aspects we analyse the magnetic induction technology communication characteristics. In order to carry on the research of underground magnetic induction communication, this thesis uses NS2 and adds the magnetic transmission attenuation channel model and code to study the underground magnetic induction network communication. At last,we verify the reliability of the added model in NS2.Based on this,we make some network communication simulation and analyze the relationship between the path loss and the working frequency, the communication distance of nodes, the number of turns, the radius of the coil and the placement angle.we analyse thenetwork throughput and node communication delay and other network performance indicators.
