With the rapid development of society and the popularization of informatization,the shortage of spectrum resource is becoming more and more serious,which has become a common concern of the whole society.Meanwhile,the number of digital devices is increasing and the demand for high quality multimedia services is constantly increasing.In order to solve the development difficulties of the continuous growth of mobile data demand and achieve large data throughput and high data rate,the emerging visible light communication(VLC)technology has become an effective technology worldwide to solve the saturation crisis of RF spectrum.VLC system is a promising method to realize effective communication,which supports communication and illumination at the same time.VLC technology has many advantages,such as unlicensed spectrum,no health concerns,low-cost,supporting high data rate,and resistance to electromagnetic interferences.Based on the basic analysis of the VLC system,this paper uses different channel modeling methods for different communication scenarios to model the VLC channel and study its channel characteristics.The main contributions of this paper are illustrated as follows:Firstly,the background of VLC is introduced,and the research status of VLC as well as the development trend of VLC are described carefully at home and abroad.Secondly,based on the VLC system components,the system principle is analyzed.Combined with modulation technology and equalization technology,we theoretically analyze how to further improve data transmission efficiency and communication efficiency.Thirdly,combined with different channel modeling methods,the performance of the VLC channel model is comprehensively analyzed.Based on this,channel modeling for indoor VLC system is carried out.Additionally,combined with the different sizes of indoor rooms and the difference of the refractive index of the object surfaces,the VLC channel characteristics are analyzed.Furthermore,based on the above analysis of VLC channel,VLC based on the special communication environment of mines is proposed.Usually,the underground mines can be divided into mining roadway and working face.Besides,in this paper,a path loss channel model,based on the recursive model,is proposed precisely.Its path loss exponent is determined by three different trajectories,which is studied in the mining roadway and working face environment.Besides,the shadowing effect for VLC has been analyzed in underground mines.
