Optical amplifiers,which can amplify optical signals,are indispensable in optical fiber communication systems.Optical amplifiers are mainly divided into three types: semiconductor optical amplifiers,doped fiber amplifiers,and nonlinear optical amplifiers.Among them,nonlinear optical parametric amplifier has attracted more and more attention in virtue of its high gain and low noise.In this paper,an optical parametric amplifier based on reverse bias PIN silicon waveguide is proposed.In the proposed scheme,free carrier lifetime is reduced by using the reverse PIN junction,and the gain and noise characteristics of the amplifier are improved.The specific work is as follows:This chapter proposes an optical parametric amplifier based on reverse biased PIN silicon waveguides and introduces the working principle.This paper establishes the theoretical model of the parametric amplifier and lays a theoretical foundation for the performance of the amplifier.The program was written using MATLAB software based on the theoretical model of a parametric amplifier based on reverse biased PIN silicon waveguides.The effective refractive index of silicon waveguide is simulated by COMSOL.The effective refractive index is replaced by the program written by MATLAB.The influence of carrier lifetime,waveguide length and effective mode field area on the characteristics of parametric amplifiers was studied.The results of the study indicate: When the reverse bias of the PIN silicon waveguide is applied to reduce the lifetime of carrier,the gain and noise performance of the amplifier can be improved.When the waveguide length is short,the gain of the amplifier can be increased and the noise figure can be reduced as the waveguide length increases.The effective mode field area can affect the performance of amplifier,and it has an optimal value.By reasonably designing the dimensions and optimizing the operating parameters,a parametric amplifier based on a reverse biased PIN silicon waveguide with better gain and noise characteristics can be realized.
