As the animation and game industries have developed rapidly, people have higher requirements about character's motion style. At present, the main approaches to build motion style are using motion capture equipment or the animator's manual edition. These approaches have either high equipment cost or high labor cost. The massive requirements of building character's motion style brings a need to find a cheaper way to do this job.We proposed a method that based on muscle-skeleton model to build motion style. This method is inspired by the phenomenon that the emotion state of people decide their athletic ability. We built a motion style manipulation layer to change character's motion style by setting the emotion state.Firstly,we designed a muscle based controller to control the character's locomotion. We built a finite state machine to break down the complex motion. We use a hybrid control strategy of Proportional plus Derivative control, positive force feedback and constant muscle excitation. We optimize control parameters of the controller by genetic algorithm.Secondly,we built a layer to manipulate character's motion style. The muscle based controller generate the excitations of the muscles, and then the motion style manipulation layer generates factors according to the current emotion state. We multiply the factors and excitations and pass the values to the muscle-skeleton model. The muscle-skeleton model would generate muscle force according to the excitations. Finally,we optimize the control parameters of motion style manipulation layer by genetic algorithm. We built the motion style manipulation layer based on the muscle based controller to make a real-time motion style generate system. We could get a new motion style just by set a different motion state. Our method doesn't need either special equipment nor extra labor cost and the experiments showed our method could generate motion style more effectively.
