Research On Paul Levinson's Media Theory

With the change of technology,the media environment around us has undergone tremendous changes.The rapid development of media technology is profoundly changing our way of life and thinking.Therefore,the media ecology school has been increasingly valued by the academic community and the industry,and has become the third university school to go hand in hand with the empirical school and the critical school.Paul Levinson is the representative of the third generation of the media ecology school.In his 1978 doctoral thesis,he made a bold declaration—the "anthropotropic" of the media,thus starting his media research path.His theory of media evolution is at the heart of his media thoughts,drawing on Darwin's theory of biological evolution,Campbell's evolutionary epistemology,and Popper's trial and error theory,and on the way to continuing McLuhan's media analysis,the thought has undergone a certain transcendence.Standing on the shoulders of giants,he developed his own theory of media evolution.This article takes Levinson's works and papers as the research object,uses literature research method to sort out the theoretical source of Levinson's media thought,analyzes the background and theoretical basis of his media thoughts,and expounds his media theory,which includes his "anthropotropic" theory,"remedial media" theory,the three stages of media evolution and his new new media,and analyzes the practical significance of his media thoughts.Levinson's media theory profoundly analyzes the evolution of media technology,that is,the evolution of humanity along with the remedy.The media respects human nature,is close to human nature,and satisfies human development.With the development of the digital age,Levinson's thinking about new new media is more comprehensive,reflected in his exploration of fake news and information security in the Internet age.In addition,this paper compares the similarities and differences of media thoughts between Levinson and other media ecology school scholars,and combines with the current media environment,the author draws on Levinson's media thoughts and applies Levinson's media theory to think about future media development and communication studies.
