Paul Levinson's Research On Media Literature And Art Theory

As Mass culture flourishing in the new new meida era,more and more scholars put their focus on the developing technical force,trying to generalize the development of the mass culture from the perspective of technique.Paul Levinson,been called"the Marshall Mcluhan in the Digital Age"and"the first man after Marshall Mcluhan",is good at analyzing the social changes and development by means of the technical philosophy in the Internet age.Paul Levinson's technical philosophy is based on the "the medium is the message" theory of Mcluhan and "technical negative influence"theory of Neil Postman.So,compared with North American empirical school and European critical school,Levinson is also a strong advocate of technical influence theory in the environment school.The biggest difference of Levinson compared with predecessor is that he first put forward the complete concept of"the soft influence of message".He believed that technique will produce protential and complicated influence in all forces of social changes.He emphasizes that technique is the necessary but not sufficient reason of changes.Levinson also attached the importance to the influence of technique on knowledge.He thought technique is the bridge of knowledge materialization and thought externalization of person.Knowledge can not produce,check or spread without technique.This paper is divided into three parts to study.In the first part,technique as a role of "soft influence " will be discussed,paticularlly technique how affects the formation of human mind,the settlement of public education system and the knowledge monopoly of books.And all these how influence the modern literature together.In the second part,the relationship between technique and literature will be discussed from three different levels.In the first level,it will illustrate that literature is belong to the area of technical philosophy,and is the extent of human mind.In the second level,the position of literature in the Internet age will be discussed.And is the literature affected by technique obsolete.In the third level,Levinson used the "toy—mirror—art"technical evolution theory to analyze technique how change to be art,to discuss the original of art from the respect of media technique,to explain this new view will bring literatue criticism new theory inspiration.In the third part,how the text characteristic of Internet and technology of word processing affects the literature will be analized.First,we may talk about the influence of social culture by "hot-cool"meida.Second,the difference between digital text and traditional writing text will be study.Third,writer authority and reader deduction in the media of Internet will be discussed.Finally,we will inquire that technology of word processing how affect literature.
