As a kind of antenna with small size,low profile,and easy integration into large-scale integrated circuits,the microstrip antenna has been widely used among many fields.With the rapid development of wireless communication,satelite mobile communication,mobile internet,and internet of things technology,the mobile terminal equipment is increasingly going towards miniaturization,low loss,and multi-function.Therefore,the design of antenna is required to be small in size,high in gain,multi-band,and so on.How to realize the above function of the microstrip patch antenna at low cost and high efficiency is also the focus and difficulty of the antenna research.This paper mainly studies the miniaturization of the microstrip antennas.The history of the development and some methods for analyzing the microstrip antennas are reviewed in this paper.And,the methods of miniaturizing the microstrip antenna in 3 has been discussed in detail in this paper: slotting,folding and loading.Principle discussion,parameter research and design analysis have been carried out for every method,and also,a design of antenna with valuable research has also been proposed.Specifically,there are the following aspects:Aiming at the slotting,a kind of slot-loaded patch antenna is proposed.In contrast to the original patch antenna,it can realize another similar resonant point while ensuring the original size.The bandwidth has been twice of the previous value,and the radiation patter stays the same over the entire bandwidth.For the folding,different from the common ways of patch bent to the outside of the substrate,a structure that been cut for the patch folded into is proposed in this paper.This structure can reduce the resonant frequency but its bandwidth also reduces and its gain at resonant frequency is about 3.25 dB,which should be further improved.Finally,the loading technique.The loading of lumped components has been mainly studied in this paper.A loading antenna combined with slotting is proposed,which could achieve a great reduction in the resonant frequency by simulation.However,the rapid deterioration of gain and radiation pattern illustrates the necessity of constantly adjusting and improving.
