Materials are the foundation of a country's manufacturing industry,and innovation in the field of materials can often lead to contributions to the current technological revolution.New materials must go through an extensive process after being discovered until they can finally be applied and enter the market.Research methods that rely on traditional trial and error and scientific intuition can no longer meet the needs of materials in the new era.Recently,a novel method of material research has been proposed called material genomics technology.It is the most advanced technology in the field of materials science and engineering in China and the world.On June 24,2011,then US President Barack Obama announced the launch of the"Promoting Manufacturing Partnership"program to reinvigorate the US's strategic position in manufacturing,The Materials Genome Initiative(MGI)It is an important part of this program.A similar material technology innovation program was launched in Europe and Japan at almost the same time as the American one.Yunnan Province has included the research content of"Genetic Engineering of Rare Metal Materials" into the provincial key planning,and officially launched the major science and technology project in April 2017.The Material Genome initiative is an important source of scientific and technological innovation as well as patent competition information for the secondary development of patents which draw on the ideas and methods of existing patents.It also helps avoid the problem of patent infringement;these characteristics can collectively help achieve a substantial accumulation knowledge and aid in the development of new.materials.Consequently,high tech industries are now capable of developing by leaps and bounds.As a Chinese province rich in metal and non-metal mineral resources,Yunnan has an important research and industrial base for non-ferrous metals and rare metals.Through the search of the number of patents,the patent status of the main competitor of the base metal in Yunnan Province(Hoboken-Ophpelt)was determined and research was carried out.Afterwards,the SWOT analysis method was used to conduct detailed research on the base metal industry in Yunnan Province,and finally gave the future development direction and patent navigation of Yunnan Province in the base metal industry.
