Peer review is the cornerstone of science and is a gold criterion of papers published for academic journals, particularly by playing a prominent role in filtering low standard manuscripts to ensure the quality of academic journals. The study purpose of this paper is to build a parallel model for qualitatively exploring the relation between the number of submissions and the overall standard of academic journals within a similar discipline under different review systems,i.e.the regular review system and the novel review system,in a distributed manner. In combination with social computing approaches, the simulation on the submission, review and acceptance behaviors for academic journals can be effectively conducted in the two review models.According to the analysis of simulation experiment results, the efficiency of peer review is directly influenced by the number of submissions, thereby impacting the overall standard of academic journals. The concrete study results are presented as follow:For the regular review system, when the number of submissions cannot satisfy fundamental requirement of academic journals, the overall standard of academic journals holds comparatively steady. When the number of submissions has basically met the demand of academic journals, the overall standard of academic journals also keeps relatively steady. However in comparison, when the number of submissions is excessive, the overall standard of academic journals in the first quartile still holds comparatively steady, but other quartiles would rapidly descend.Compared against the regular review system,in the novel review system, although the number of submissions has greatly satisfied the requirement of academic journals relatively, the overall standard of academic journals still keeps comparatively steady. However,as the number of submissions keeps on increasing significantly, the overall standard of academic journals is evidently rising, whereas a transition to a steady state would appear later.Generally speaking, under the condition that the number of submissions increases evidently, the efficiency of the novel review system has already been improved clearly, and such a novel review system also holds distinct advantage in boosting the overall standard of academic journals,in comparison with the regular review system.
