Due to the proliferation of mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet computers, and increase in the speed of network devices to forward data, the Internet traffic has grown rapidly over the last decade. Therefore, the energy consumption of the network is increasing. And excessive energy consumption not only increases the operating cost of the network, but also creates a great impact on the global environment.Future network is one of the important technologies for solving the problem of current Internet development. While the study of sleep mechanism is an effective method to reduce the future network energy consumption. This thesis studies the sleep mechanism of the future network based on the status quo.Based on a comprehensive analysis of mainstream solutions of future network, this thesis focuses on the architecture and sleep technologies of OpenFlow and DTN networks. For OpenFlow networks, based on the different sleep objects, the node sleep mechanism and the link sleep mechanism are studied. This thesis analyzes the execution flow and performance of the two mechanisms and compares the performance of the two sleep schemes.Analysis and simulation results show that the energy-saving effect of the link sleep mechanism is more significant. For the DTN network, this thesis studies two adaptive asynchronous clock dormancy schemes(EACDS sleep algorithm and MACDS sleep algorithm),and analyzes the performance of them. This thesis simulates the two algorithms. It can be known from the simulation results that the MACDS sleep algorithm can effectively reduce the network energy consumption.
