In recent years,with the product market and the pace of globalization of trade is accelerating,the competition among electrical enterprises is becoming increasingly fierce.The new product development is particularly important to occupy the market and make enterprises invincible.Hence,how to shorten the development cycle,improve the efficiency of research and development,launch new products into the market is a very important issue that placed in front of the enterprises.In this paper,from the study of electrical equipment R&D process used by the Gate model to ABB(China)Co.,Ltd.Xiamen Branch of the Medium voltage products Technology Center(EPMV)as the application example,combine the Gate model and modern information technology,develop a scientific,user-oriented,multi-functional R&D process management platform,and by practical application,achieve the desired results,good user feedback,enhance the competitiveness of enterprises,play a significant role in improving business efficiency.It has a very important project use and promotion value.First of all,this paper studies the traditional theory of Gate model,analyzes the meaning of "stage" and "gate" in the theory,and finds out its defects.Three new Gate model are proposed to adapt to different R&D projects.Secondly,the theory of management Porter's five-force model and the necessary process of electrical equipment research and development are combined to optimize the EPMV Gate model technology,and summarize some suggestions on the application of Gate model.Thirdly,analysis the needs of R&D process management platform to determine the Web-based platform development program,then design logic of the upper level and lower system architecture,while completing the development of features such as e-mail remind.After the platform development is complete,test,find and repair thevulnerability.Finally,take a new type of vacuum circuit breaker research and development project as the application case,empirical analysis the effectiveness of platform.The results show that the platform can effectively improve the efficiency of project's R&D by 20 %,and can save the R&D cost at least $ 131,000 per year.Three new Gate model was proposed by the author and optimization of EPMV Gate model technology which applied to the platform.Platform development achieve the cross-application of Gate model,information technology and electrical equipment research.After the operation of the platform,up to now,more than 30 countries of ABB branch have introduced the platform for electrical equipment R&D process management.
