Wire arc 3D printing is an advanced manufacturing technology for low cost and high efficiency manufacturing of metal work piece,which uses arc as the heat source and fills the work piece with metal wire layer-by-layer.Because the technology combines arc surfacing and 3D printing,the formed metal body has uniform chemical composition and good mechanical properties,and it has the advantages of short manufacturing period,high material utilization and insensitive to complex structure.However,the forming process and supporting 3D printing software need further research and improvement.Therefore,a set of wire arc 3D printing system is designed according to the specific requirements,which uses the gas metal arc welding as the forming method to realize the rapid prototyping of the three-dimensional model,and provides test support for rapid direct manufacturing and remanufacturing of large parts.On the basis of existing research,the welding hammer device is integrated into the arc 3D printing system.At the time,according to its characteristics,the overall scheme is determined.Besides,the installation and debugging of the hardware including welding system,motion controller,servo system,hammer device are completed,and the software is further developed.This paper introduce the 3D printing file format,after analyzing its characteristics,the STL file reading modules is designed to process the read 3D model by slicing in layers.To complete the rapid and orderly extraction of section contour,the way of calculating contour intersection and the local topology algorithm based on the position relation are put forward.When the section contour is done,the threshold value is set to eliminate redundant points with the requirements of forming size.After that,the contour offset formula is derived,which is used as the forming boundary to plan the machining path.In order to ensure the reliability of the system and reduce the number of arc starting,an improved filling algorithm was proposed.At the time,this paper proposes an optimization method of curve fitting to improve the poor quality of forming boundary.Based on the research content,this paper uses MFC to develop the slicing software for wire arc 3D printing.Through path planning of multiple 3D models,the reliability and stability of the software for data processing are verified.Then,the wire arc 3D printing forming experiment of some models is carried out,and the results show the feasibility of the wire arc 3D printing system.
