Low Poly is a style that uses less triangles to depict objects.Josh Bryan's hand-painted portraits are visually similar to this style.Drawing this kind of portraits however requires strong ability of abstraction, and is also time consuming.Computer generation of such portraits can reveal the features of the low poly and also has practical application value. This thesis proposes an approach for rendering portraits with the style of low poly. This approach starts from a single photograph of portraits, segment the portrait and the background with a few interactions, and generates low poly portraits with the following steps:detect contours of portraits with which the region of rendering is obtained, and abstract feature points from the contours detected;detect face features with ASM with which the face features can be better preserved;determine the number of seed points by utilizing the local shading information, and then construct the triangular mesh with Delaunay triangulation algorithm;all triangles in the mesh are rendered with proper number of parallel lines according to the local shading information to suggest shadings and the final stylized portraits can be obtained. In this study we test our approach with female, male photographs of portraits and analyze the results. Also we show examples of generated portraits with the style of low poly by taking paintings of portraits as input images. The experimental results show that our approach is able to generate the portraits with the style similar to that painted by Josh Bryan.
