In recent years, with people's growing spiritual and cultural needs and the increase of national emphasis on calligraphy and painting education, people begin to visit the Chinese calligraphy and painting exhibitions more frequently. In this context, museums need to enhance public awareness, service awareness and consider the demands of different visitors when planning calligraphy and painting exhibitions, rather than send messages by one-way.Compared with the natural science exhibitions,or historical and cultural exhibitions,Chinese calligraphy and painting exhibitions have their own unique features as well as more problems to solve. It is an inevitable requirement to raise the quality of Chinese calligraphy and painting exhibitions by analyzing the background, the demand and the experience of correspondent visitors.Since the visitor studies in the Chinese painting and calligraphy exhibitions of the museums is still in its infancy and the data related is insufficient, the author conducted a three-week questionnaire research of the three Chinese painting and calligraphy exhibitions in Zhejiang Museum and Hangzhou Museum.Firstly, this paper analyzes the motivation, information demand, visit behavior, the degree of information received on calligraphy and painting exhibits and visiting experience of the visitors, and investigates the theme and dissemination of the purpose of various kinds of calligraphy and painting exhibitions in domestic museums to summarize the divergent types of planning models of the calligraphy and painting exhibitions.Secondly, combined with the results of the visitor studies, the paper points out the current existing problems of Chinese painting and calligraphy exhibitions in domestic museums. Finally, according to the needs and the cognitive situation of the visitors and the uniqueness of Chinese painting and calligraphy, this paper puts forward three strategies, namely, getting close to the audience's topic selection, using the narrative strategy in the view of art history, interpretation strategies based on the "style analysis" and "iconography" as well as the display form of painting and calligraphy exhibition strategies.Specific cases are integrated to discuss the feasibility of the strategy,so as to provide a scheme of feasible principles and references that can be used by the domestic museums.
