The Media Presentation Of People's Daily Online For The Coverage Of Criminal Cases

The criminal case report is the most common type in the rule of law news report.Because it has the characteristics of importance,significance and thrill,it arises a wide range of concerns.Media coverage for criminal cases condemn offence,and it plays a positive role in educating and warning people.People's Daily Online,one of the key national construction news websites,was founded in 1997 by People's daily.As one of the most authoritative and representative mainstream medias,People's Daily Online plays an important role in guidance of public opinion and social supervision.The paper selects 11 cases of reports from People's Daily Online,and it researches the media presentation of criminal reports from People's Daily Online by using frame theory,content analysis and narrative analysis.The study found that from 2007 to 2017,People's Daily Online has increased the attention of criminal cases,and the number of reports has been increasing as a whole.In 2011,People Television began broadcasting,and it increased the form of video news and made the report form more pluralistic.When reporting criminal cases,it focuses on the theme of "notification of case investigation / trial / execution process" and "reasons for discussing cases / related social phenomena",which embodies the frame of "fact description" and "problem discussion" and “ reflection and suggestion”.As to the narrative mode,People's Daily Online plays the role of the observer and the recorder.The narrative perspective is to focus from the perspective of public sound,reflecting the "publicity oriented frame".The narrative structure usually uses time clues or causality in series of news facts to form a simple and clear linear narrative structure.People's Daily Online pays more attention to the objectivity and authority of criminal case reports,mainly reflected in four aspects: Firstly,From the point of access to news,it pays attention to the interview by the reporters to the first-hand information.Secondly,from the source point of view,it trend to obtain authoritative information from the public security organs,court and procuratorate.Thirdly,from the quotation,it trys to use the direct quotation showing the subjective words.Fourthly,from the source of reprinted news,it focus on the official traditional media and the official news website.However,The criminal case reports of People's Daily Online have some shortcomings: firstly,the number of original news are far less than the number of reprinted news.Secondly,the major content consists of news and comment,lacking of depth reports.Thirdly,it pays attention to quote from public security organs,court,procuratorate and other government departments,lacking of the words of parties.The "emotional tendencies frame" is not obvious.Fourthly,the narrative perspective and narrative structure is onefold,it is difficult to read.Hereby,the author puts forward on four suggestions: Firstly,increasing the input of original news.Original news can reflect the position of the media more than the reprinted news.To continue to deepen the original content of the website,it is beneficial to realize the guidance of public opinion and the media function of the law dissemination.Secondly,it's necessary to strengthen the in-depth reports,it can enriches the content of reports.Thirdly,the quote of news source should be balanced,it should be enhanced the words of parties.Fourthly,Setting reasonable conflict and suspense in the report,it can transform humdrum news into fascinating news stories.
