Small Internet start-ups are the backbone of Chinese entrepreneurship wave.As China's Internet entrepreneurship enters the normal stage,small Internet start-ups will enhance their strength and develop with a steady pace.From the perspective of communication,this study collected abundant first-hand data through participant observation,depth interview,focus groups and documents,and the data was analyzed in detail by analytic demo,coding and theme analysis.This study explored organizational participation of small Internet start-ups from the following five aspects:characteristics of organizational structure and the impact on participation,organizational participation forms,decision-making process in organizational participation,the outcome of organizational participation,and the influence of social media usage on organizational participation.This study found that small Internet start-ups have multiple organizational structures,including functional structure,regional structure and virtual structure,which result in a relaxed organizational climate.Online participation group based on functional task is the main form of organizational participation in small start-ups.In addition,participatory management and periodic formal working meetings provide employees with alternative participation forms.There are two kinds of decisions in organizational participation:technical decision and interest decision.Among them,interest decision is more demanding in communication strategy and organizational participation skill.From a personal level,the acquisition of skills is the most direct result of organizational participation;from the organizational level,organizational participation usually helps to improve the efficiency of enterprise production.Small Internet start-ups have a high frequency of social media usage,so the formal nature of organizational participation is eliminated,and the discourse of power system is reconstructed.However,the potential identity confusion also leads to the conflict in organizational participation.According to the research findings,this study suggests small Internet start-ups clarify complex organizational structures,improve the relevant benefits of organizational participation,and organize participation skills training activities.
