With the rapid development of computer networks and messaging technologies,the way people communicate with each other has undergone great changes.Among them,the instant messaging system is gaining popularity for its convenience,ease of use,various formats of communication,and low costs.If instant-messaging software was widely used among scientific researchers,it would not only facilitate the communication between researchers,but also improve the efficiency of experiments,thus leading to its high research value.However,currently the most popular technologies and protocols for instant messaging products are closed,meaning,research institutions cannot use these commercial products to meet their individual needs.In light of this,we analyze the research status of instant messaging systems at home and abroad,make a detailed analysis of the functional requirements for the system,select the open source XMPP protocol for its openness,extensibility and security,and finally propose the EAST instant messaging system solution based on the open source frameworks,Openfire and Spark.The system has the basic communication functions(chat,file transfer,etc)and the unique features of the EAST experimental platform(address book,subscription-push,etc).Among these additional features,the subscription-push function is one of the most innovative and practical.It includes two parts:the front-end subscription website and the back-end push system.The signals generated during the experiment are properly classified and displayed on the Web to meet the subscription needs of researchers,and then it will be pushed by the back-end system according to the subscription result.This function can simplify the user's way of acquiring data and improve the experimental efficiency.In this paper,we carry out the detailed analysis and design of the system frame and module,and finally implement the EAST instant communication system using Java as the development language.The test results show that the system has good functionality and stability within a certain range and can meet the initial design needs.This system has solved the problem of researchers being unable to obtain the progress and results of experiments in a timely manner,and it provides a good communication platform for EAST experiment.
