For the consideration of the stability of the network, the Internet routing protocol usually works in the slow convergence mode.As a result, when there are path failures, the data stream affected by the failures will be redirected to the new paths for a long time.Application layer routing protocols were invented to circumvent such problems. But the popular application layer routing protocols still face many key bottlenecks, such as how to choose the neighborhood during the application layer routing, how to maintance the routing table of application layer and so on.In the paper, upon the study of several methods of the application routing technology and application layer communication agent(called ALCA),I make several improvements of ALCA.As a result, the function and performance of ALCA are improved. And I have tested ALCA on the experiment verification net and on the global testbed called PlanetLab carefully. The results prove that ALCA carn achieve 500ms timely on routing through application layer. The main contents of this paper are as followed:(1)Study and analyse the existing technology of application layer routing in and aboard and ALCA.Distinguish the advantages and disadvantages and make a summary.(2)Based on(1),make improvements of ALCA,like adding the anchor synchronization function of the node management module, adding the virtual set function of the virtual link detection module, making a improvement of the choosing neighborhood function of application layer routing protocol module, implementing the application layer paths detection function of the application layer paths detection module and so on.(3)Test the function and performace of the solution both on the experiment verification net and on the global testbed called PlanetLab.
