Left-handed metamaterial is a kind of new artificial material with ?<0 and ?<0 simultaneously.As the greatest discovery of the scientific community in the 21st century,it has been attached more interesting to the scholars,quickly.The exotic negative refraction,reversal of Doppler Effect and flat LH lens feature of left-handed have a great advantage to design the microwave devices.Due to its absorption of the incident electromagnetic wave,applying this feature to microstrip antenna can efficiently suppress the surface of the microstrip antenna which inspires wave and radiation from the parasitic feed network when in operation,and thus it improves the radiation efficiency as well as the performance of the microstrip antenna.Recently,with the development of wireless communication technology,wireless communication terminal has arose great interest among scholars.As an integral part of microwave devices,the research and the design of antenna based on left-handed metamaterials structure is of great importance.The thesis first introduces the research background and significance of the present study and analyzes the research status of left-handed metamaterial and application.Then the author puts forward two kinds of new structure of the left-hand metamaterials which can both realize the double band features of LH when parallel to the incident electromagnetic wave and under the condition of vertical incidence.Finally,the microstrip antennas based on the first metamaterial has been designed in this paper.The main results of this study are as follows:(1)Two kinds of novel left-handed metamaterial has been put forward in.One is the double-incidence and multi-band LHM based on coplanar electric and magnetic resonators.The left-handed properties of the proposed structure have been verified by both numerical simulations and experiments.For electromagnetic wave parallel incidence,the structure achieves two LH pass-bands around peak of 7.3GHz,8.1GHz and one RH pass-band around peak of 9.4GHz simultaneously.For electromagnetic wave normal incidence,the structure can exhibit three LH pass-bands at the frequencies 7.1GHz,8.9GHz and 11.8GHz simultaneously.The other is double M-shaped structure metamaterial.From the simulated results,an apparent dual-band left-banded band has been obtained by the central frequency of 8.2GHz and 9.8GHz under parallel incidence,while two resonant points near 6.9GHz and 8.3GHz under normal incidence.(2)According to the Z-shaped structure left-handed material proposed previously,it has been applied to the microstrip antenna aiming at improving its performance.Simulation results show that when the left-handed material applied to the dual-band microstrip antenna functioned as a cover layer,microstrip antenna improves 2.0dB and 2.2dB respectively at the central frequency of 7.1GHz and 8.8GHz,while bandwidth increased 240MHz and 170MHz.When the negative permeability material is loaded into the substrate of microstrip antenna,it increased 1.5dB at the central frequency of 8.2GHz,and has better orientation,higher radiation efficiency.The proposed left-handed metamaterial and antennas are designed by the tool of CST.Left-hand materials are expanded in band number and incidence Angle,and it has simple structures as well as easy making process.The left-handed materials in application significantly improve the performance of microstrip antenna,bandwidth,and directivity.
