The propose of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" further strengthened emphasis on entrepreneurship.Entrepreneurship contains six factors: innovative spirit and entrepreneurship spirit, cooperation spirit and contractual spirit, professionalism, openness. It is these six factors that enable entrepreneurs to quickly and bravely seize the opportunity and put their innovative ideas into practice,so as to create more jobs, boost employment and promote economic growth.Encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship is essential to China's high-quality development. While the state attaches importance to entrepreneurship,it also pays more attention to the education.A number of studies also have shown that companies are more likely to hire people with higher levels of education, meaning that education promotes individuals' employment and reduces the likelihood of their unemployment.Does the education level enhance individuals' selfemployments and their entrepreneurship? How does the education level affect the type of selfemployment? Solving these problems will help us come up with better policies to promote the improvement of national education level and the transformation of China into an innovative country at the same time. This paper combines theoretical model with empirical research. In the theoretical model,we give the employment decisions of individuals by comparing their utilities under different circumstances. In the empirical analysis, based on the 2016 CLDS data, this paper adopts binary logit model and multiple logit model to explore the impact of education on an individual's selfemployment and on the choice of self-employed type.In this paper, the quality of education is innovatively added on the basis of the years of education to measure the education level.Occupations are divided into opportunistic self-employed,passive self-employed,high quality employment and low quality employment to differentiate the heterogeneity of different occupations. The results show that education level has an inverted U-shaped effect on individual self-employment.With the increase of education level, the probability of individual self-employment first increases and then decreases.Specifically, when the education level is low,it is not enough for individuals to obtain high-quality employment. They are mainly engaged in passive self-employment or lowquality employment. As the education level increase and while the individuals are still not enough to find high-quality jobs, they tend to engage in opportunistic self-employment,so as to improve the overall self-employment rate. When the education level is more than 13,the promotion of education to high-income employment is better than the promotion to opportunistic selfemployment, showing that individuals tend to reduce the probability of self-employment.The above results show that China's higher education has not significantly increased the overall rate of self-employment and the entrepreneurship education in universities still has room to improve, which is worth our reflection.Based on this, this paper proposes that in order to promote the probability of self-employment and the transformation of China into an innovation-oriented country,it needs the collaborative reform of the education sector, the labor market and the government sector. The education sector should accelerate the reform of entrepreneurship education and build a perfect system of innovation and entrepreneurship education. The labor market should improve the market system, improve the flexibility and stability of the market. The government sector should further optimize their functions and provide a positive atmosphere for entrepreneurs.
