Empathy refers to the ability of individuals to perceive and understand other people's emotions and emotional states,identify and accept other people's views,and finally experience other people's emotions.The students of the first year of junior high school have just entered a brand-new environment,and their body and mind are in a stage of adaptation,and it is also a critical period to shape their abilities in all aspects.How to improve their empathy ability to help them establish a good interpersonal relationship has become a topic of common concern of researchers.Many previous studies have proved that individual empathy ability can be significantly improved after short-term empathy intervention training.Therefore,based on the Empathy Development Stage Theory,Psychological Theory and Mirror Neuron Theory,this study designs a set of empathy curriculum around the three levels of cognition,emotion and behavior from the two stages of foundation and application to improve the empathy ability of junior high school students,and help them further improve their interpersonal relationship,and finally lay a foundation for the development of their mental health.In order to observe the changes of the empathy ability of junior high school students after receiving the empathy coaching course,and to explore the effectiveness of the empathy coaching course,this study used the Basic Empathy Scale and Mental Health Inventroy of Middle-school students to conduct a questionnaire survey on junior high school students in a middle school in Shihezi,and used the comparative design of the experimental group and the control group,84 students from two classes were selected as research subjects,42 in the experimental group and 42 in the control group.Eight empathy tutoring courses were carried out in the experimental group,while the control group did not carry out any curriculum coaching related to empathy.The scores of pre-test,post-test and follow-up post-test between the experimental group and the control group were statistically analyzed,the results of Independent Sample T-test showed that there was no significant difference in the dimensions and total scores of empathy between the experimental group and the control group.In all dimensions and total scores of mental health,there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group.The results of ANOVA of Repeated Measurements showed that the scores of empathy,cognition and emotion in the experimental group increased significantly.Although the scores of empathy,cognition and emotion in the control group also showed an upward trend,they did not reach a significant level.In the experimental group,there were significant differences between pre-test and post-test,pre-test and follow-up post-test on the dimensions of empathy,cognition and emotion,but no significant differences between post-test and follow-up post-test.In the control group,there were no significant differences between pre-test and post-test,pre-test and follow-up post-test,post-test and follow-up post-test on the dimensions of empathy,cognition and emotion.In the experimental group,the total score of mental health and the scores of paranoia,hostility,interpersonal sensitivity,depression,maladaptation,emotional instability and psychological imbalance showed a downward trend,but did not reach a significant level,while there were significant differences in the scores of obsessive-compulsive,anxiety and learning stress between pre-test and follow-up post-test.In the control group,there were small changes in the total score of mental health and the scores of each sub-dimension,but they did not reach a significant level.The results of text analysis showed that after a two-month empathy counseling course,the empathy ability of the students in the experimental group has been improved to a certain extent.Therefore,this study draws the following conclusions:1.The empathy coaching course designed in this study is effective.2.The course of empathy coaching has a significant role in improving the empathy ability of junior high school students.
