Research ability is the key to the content of graduate education and plays an important role in building an innovative country.As the key link of postgraduate training,"supervisor guidance " is an important way to improve graduate students' research ability.Therefore,researching the relationship between supervisor guidance and postgraduate research ability has certainly theoretical and practical value for improving postgraduate research capabilities and supervisor guidance levels,as well as improving the postgraduate supervisor system.Based on Intelligence Theory and Self-determination Theory,this paper adopts literature research method,investigation research method and statistical analysis method,takes the academic graduate student of economics and management as the investigation object,and uses SPSS24.0 software to find out the present situation of supervisor guidance and graduate research ability through descriptive analysis.According to this,we put forward some countermeasures and suggestions to improve supervisor guidance and improve graduate students' research ability.The main research contents are as follows: Firstly,sorting out the relevant literature of supervisor guidance and graduate research ability research,and defining the core concepts of supervisor guidance and graduate research ability.At the same time,explaining Intelligence Theory and Self-determination Theory to provide a theoretical basis for index division and countermeasure suggestions.Secondly,constructing the index system of supervisor guidance and graduate research ability based on literature and theoretical basis.The supervisor guidance is divided into five dimensions: guidance scale,guidance frequency,guidance way,guidance content and guidance style.The graduate students' research ability is divided into six dimensions: discovery and problem-solving ability,data collection and processing ability,logical reasoning ability,scientific research innovation ability,language understanding and expression ability,and scientific research output.Based on this,a questionnaire was prepared,and methods such as project analysis,reliability and validity test,and exploratory factor analysis were used to ensure the quality of the questionnaire.Third,carrying out supervisor guidance and graduate research ability status investigation and statistical analysis.It is found that the phenomenon of excessive scale of guidance still exists;the frequency of guidance is lacking;the main way of guidance is to participate in the subject;the content of guidance pays attention to the writing of papers,neglecting academic ethics and academic norms,career planning,psychological guidance,etc.;the style of guidance is biased towards low support,low control,high support and high control.In the graduate research ability,the academic master's graduate research ability is in the middle level overall.Among them,the ability of data collection and processing is the highest,the ability of scientific research and innovation is the lowest,and the output of scientific research is mostly one.Fourth,based on the survey results,using chi-square analysis and correlation analysis methods,the impact of supervisor guidance on graduate research ability analysis.The research found that the effective guidance scale is influential,the appropriate guidance frequency is influential,the way to participate in the project is influential,perfect guidance content is influential,and combined guidance style is influential.Fifth,according to the research results,combined with the theory of self-determination,put forward to increase academic thinking training and subject participation opportunities,improve and timely adjust the content of guidance and other suggestions,in order to improve supervisor guidance and graduate research ability.
