China officially implemented the "universal two-child policy" on January 1,2016,which has undoubtedly brought pressure to women across the country, especially professional women.Because professional women not only have to deal with the pressure of work, but also have to deal with the pressure of taking care of children at home.Combining the dual pressures faced by professional women with previous theories, this paper obtained samples from the databases of 2017 Chinese Time Use Survey(CTUS)and the 2017 China Household Finance Survey(CHFS)to investigate the impact of fertility behavior on the salary of professional women. The results show that there is a wage penalty effect for professional women in China. That is,the more children they have, the lower the salary of professional women.Next, the cross-sectional differences show that long working hours, the husband's high level of education and the region's high level of economic development would mitigate the negative impact of fertility behavior on the salary of professional women. Finally, this paper uses the measurement method of changing explanatory variables and explained variables to test the robustness of the basic results, and the results are still robust.Through empirical research, this paper can obtain the coefficient of "maternity wage penalty" in China, and study the conditions to alleviate the "maternity wage penalty" for professional women, which can help policy makers to formulate policies to alleviate the "maternity wage penalty" for women to provide theoretical support.
