Under the background of the increasing education of women in China, the labor participation rate of women has continued to decline.Fertility is one of the important explanatory factors of this social problem. This social problem can also inhibit fertility and lead to serious population problems.Fertility is one of the important explanatory factors of this social problem.Women's systematic disadvantages in job hunting, job evaluation, salary, and promotion opportunities because of their mother's role are called “Motherhood Penalty”.This paper uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, including OLS regression and interviews. The China Health and Nutrition Survey(CHNS)2000-2015 data used in the quantitative research part of this paper. On the one hand, this paper analyzes the impact of fertility on the gender wage gap from a macro perspective. On the other hand, through qualitative research, the mechanism of action on the gender wage gap is explained. Finally, through the combing of foreign work and family policy development,I propose some policy recommendations. The main research findings: Fertility has a significant negative impact on women's wage income, and has no significant effect on men;fertility has the largest “motherhood penalty” for elite women with high education, high income, and high positions;traditional gender division of labor, gender perception of different roles And the statistical discrimination of employers are the important reasons for the problem of “motherhood penalty” in labor market workers. In the context of China's comprehensive two-child policy, the fertility rate of newborns continues to decline.Only when the risks of childbirth can be shared, women may be willing to have children. Therefore,we should provide support for female workers and their families from various aspects such as ideological concepts, public opinion guidance, and policy support.
