| As outlined in Strategy on Revitalization of Rural Areas(2018-2022),Students' right to quality education within their residential area must be ensured.Eventually, the responsibility to upkeep education quality in rural areas rests on the shoulders of teachers,as their efficiency in delivering knowledge to the students is the sole determinant of the quality of education that students will receive. Therefore,a critical focus in maintaining high education standard is the assessment of instructors' teaching quality in order to provide a frame of reference for teachers to keep up with increasing demand about students' literacy skill development. This study utilized a combination of questionnaire and interviews to empirically analyze rural teachers' teaching quality and deduced the following conclusions.Firstly, our analysis indicated that sampled teachers' teaching quality is generally satisfactory, albeit lack of quality in preparatory materials(i.e.the quality of course materials)have been noted.Secondly,we identified several constraining factors that limited teachers' improvement in teaching quality, including teachers' lack of in-depth understanding of course materials, lengthy period of self-improvement and mismatch between teachers' job demand and their own academic attainment.Thirdly,we found that respondents' teaching quality is correlated with their age, experience, professional credential and educational background, but no gender difference was found.Based on the aforementioned findings,we propose the following suggestions for improvements.Firstly, teaching staff could expand their own knowledge structure and progress through self-learning with customized plan for professional advancement.Secondly, school administrations could emphasize on assessment of staff's teaching quality by incorporating it into employment decision-making process while also providing staff with appropriate stress relief measures.Thirdly, the government could consider improving teachers' welfare, providing training in teachers' mastery of professional skills as well as perfecting teachers' management and hiring system.Conclusively, this research provided a new insight on assessment of teachers' teaching quality through examining the correlation between the teachers' core literacy skill and their students'.In doing so we accumulated data about rural teachers' experience, summarized past lessons and expanded the theory about teachers' teaching quality in order to address obstacles in refining and practicing measurement and assessment of teaching quality. |
