Compared with real experiments,virtual experiments have their unique advantages.With the rapid development of education informationization,various virtual experiments are constantly being designed,developed and applied to education and teaching.However,through exploration and analysis of many currently widely used virtual experimental platforms,it is found that there are problems such as low reality,uninterestingness,one-fold interaction ways and mismatch between technology development and educational applications.On the other hand,from reports on science education standards and guidance frameworks officially released by various countries,it can be found that letting students carry out inquiry learning has become the theme tune of science education around the world.In order to leverage the advantages of virtual experiments in science education,from the perspective of interaction design,this research integrates the concept of inquiry learning and Web3 D technology into virtual experiments to improve its user experience.Based on combing and analyzing existing research,theoretical foundations and commercial products,first of all,interaction design framework of inquiry learning oriented virtual experiment based on web3 D is proposed.The dissolving of salt experiment,secondly,is used as a case of interaction design and technical development practice.Finally,instruction application and inquiry learning activity are designed and implemented,and user experience questionnaires are issued to participants to verify the application effects of interaction design of inquiry learning oriented virtual experiment based on Web3 D.In the phase of establishing the interaction design framework,firstly,four principles of virtual experiment interaction design were proposed: abiding by middle school curriculum,being oriented to inquiry learning,having good user experience,and customizing feedback mechanisms.Secondly,it defines the standardized process of virtual experiment interaction design and principles of content selection,and then elaborates strategies of competitive product analysis.Finally,the ideas of design of virtual experiment exploration activities,functional modules and prototypes are proposed.In the phase of interactive case designing,based on analysis of related competing products,virtual experiment dissolution of salt was proposed,whose investigation activities,functional modules and prototype were specifically designed.The part of designing its inquiry activities includes specifying inquiry level and building five inquiry scaffolds;the part of functional module design fully describes the way of observation,operation,and result presenting;the part of prototype design uses the software Omni Graffle to elaborately drew the prototype of virtual experiment dissolution of salt,which is composed of various functional modules.In the phase of development,a series of technologies such as Babylon.js were used for the development of the virtual experiment case dissolution of salt,and key functions such as real-time rendering of 3D experimental phenomena and scenes by Canvas,and dynamic data visualization by SVG,and a lot of work has been done on this basis,including optimization,adjustment and testing.At the same time,this research has developed a virtual experiment platform Lab 3D,which fully considers standardization and extensibility,and can add more inquiry learning oriented Web3 D virtual experiments in the future.In order to explore the effect of teaching application of virtual experiment dissolution of salt,this study designed related teaching plan and inquiry learning activity.30 seventh grade students were invited to conduct the inquiry learning activity via the virtual experiment platform under the guidance of teachers.The result of application of dissolution of salt shows that the virtual experiment meets the learning needs of learners,can help learners better understand and master relevant knowledge,and has not only high ease of use but also good user experience,learners have shown a strong willingness to continue using virtual experiment.
