In the middle and late 20th century,science and its application,beyond doubt,affected all aspects of society.Scientific knowledge is not limited to a small number of people,but at the same time it is not limited to a small number of theoretical knowledge.As the release of the new version of the people's education edition of high school chemistry textbook in 2019,it is unprecedented to conduct the analysis of the differences between the old and new versions of high school chemistry textbooks from the perspective of HPS education concept.HPS is the abbreviation of History of Science,Philosophy of Science and Sociology of Science,which is the Chinese meaning.There are many similarities between the development of students' core literacy and the HPS education concept currently studied in the world.The concrete embodiment of HPS education concept in teaching materials is in line with the inevitable trend of taking core literacy as education development goal.This study's significance is to offer guidance for the formation of students' core literacy,provide valuable suggestions for the interpretation and evaluation concerning new textbooks,give assistance to teachers to implement HPS education and teaching,and facilitate teachers' professional development.The first part of this study is to understand the background regarding HPS education concept under the current curriculum reform,clarify the issues and significance in the research.After analyzing a large number of documents,it defined the basic concepts of HPS education and high school chemistry textbooks.The second part is to sort out the development of HPS education concept and the status quo of research at home and abroad,and use this part of the content as the theoretical basis of this study.The third part is to design the research,determine the research framework,research objects,research tools,analysis indicators,data processing and example analysis.The fourth part is to make the comparative analysis of HPS content in the new and old high school chemistry textbooks,it conducts data statistics and content comparative analysis of the five main categories and 21 sub categories determined in this study,and implements the analysis of relevant case.This part is the key content.Then,after the comparative analysis of the two versions of high school chemistry textbooks,the conclusions and suggestions of this study are drawn.At last,it expounds the shortcomings of this study and prospect of research on them.The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Comparison of the number and distribution of HPS subclassesFrom the overall content of the main categories of HPS,the high school chemistry textbooks of the People's Education Edition(2019)and the People's Education Edition(2007)contain five main categories of HPS.However,the number of subcategories in the People's Education Edition(2019)is more than that in the People's Education Edition(2007),and the People's Education Edition(2019)focuses more on three main categories-"History of Chemistry","Influence of Science and Technology on Society"and "Influence of Society on Science and Technology".(2)Comparison of HPS content involving knowledge breadthThe content of HPS in the People's Education Edition(2019)involves more knowledge points as a whole than that in the People's Education Edition(2007),and the new textbook involves more knowledge points in HPS content.From the perspective of the breadth of knowledge,both the People's Education Edition(2019)and the People's Education Edition(2007)focus on four main categories:chemical history,the nature of science and the impact of science and technology on society,and the impact of society on science and technology.From the perspective of the five main categories,the knowledge points of the People's Education Edition(2019)in the history of chemistry,the impact of science and technology on society,and the impact of society on science and technology are significantly more than those of the People's Education Edition(2007).The two versions are no great difference in the presentation of the breadth of the essential knowledge points of science,and neither of the two versions of chemistry textbooks presents the knowledge points in terms of the cause of science.(3)Comparison of HPS content presentationIn the aspect of number,the HPS content presentation mode of the People's Education Edition(2019)is more than that of the People's Education Edition(2007).The surplus parts are "student experiment","method guidance","chemistry and occupation","information search".In terms of the form,the columns of the People's Education Edition(2019)always show students' application,practice and improvement,and their ability cultivation.At the aspect of the breadth of presentation methods,the two versions of textbooks have the most presentation methods in the main category of "impact of science and technology on society".This is an indication of the two versions of textbooks pay the most attention to the main category of "the impact of science and technology on society".In terms of the number of presentation methods,the People's Education Edition(2019)textbook has exhibited the increasing of the proportion of illustrations and columns in the presentation method,paid more attention to colorful presentation methods,and improved the textbook's interest and readability.Suggestions for front-line teachers:(1)Teachers should fully tap the HPS education connotation of the new textbooks.(2)Teachers should give high priority to the education of chemical history and the development of theoretical concepts.(3)Teachers should pay special attention to the interrelationship between science and technology and society in teaching.(4)In the course of teaching,teachers should take multiple presentation methods to conduct teaching.(5)In the teaching process,teachers should place the cultivation of students' ability on their higher agenda.
