With the advancement of the 2018 new curriculum reform,the cultivation of the subject key competencies,which is the research focus of the geography instruction,has become the core philosophy of the middle school classroom teaching in the new era.The proposal of the key competencies puts forward new requirements for the teaching philosophy and teaching methods of geography.Project-based teaching is an innovative teaching method that is projected-oriented,teacher-led and students-oriented.It is an essential teaching method that fulfills the requirement of cultivating students' key competencies of geography.In recent years,project-based teaching has been gradually applied in various basic disciplines,and it has attracted lots of scholars to conduct related researches.However,the research of project-based teaching in geography discipline is little and it not yet perfect.Therefore,in this paper,the objective is to construct a projected-based teaching pattern that aims to cultivate students' geographical key competencies,explore the problems of high school geography instruction in order to provide guidance on how to improve the quality of high school geography instruction.This paper mainly has the following five sections:The first section is the introduction,which briefly describes the related background and determines the objectives and content of this study.It summarizes the status of the at home and abroad research in project-based teaching,project-based teaching process,project-based teaching pattern and key competencies of geography via literature reviews.This part provides the basis for the study.The second section is the principle and method.It gives the definition of "project","project-based teaching","project-based teaching pattern" and "key competencies of geography".It defines the relationships among these terms as well.This part establishes the basic hypothesis of the study.The third section is the model construction.It designs a project-based teaching pattern based on the cultivation of the key competencies of geography while taking the features of the geography course,theories of project-based teaching and research of existing patterns into consideration.It explains the elements of the teaching pattern in detail so as to select the topic for designing and applying.The fourth section is the pattern application and effect evaluation.Based on the theme of "Wuhan Water Resources and its comprehensive development and utilization",this paper demonstrates the specific application and teaching practice of the pattern,and analyzes the effectiveness of the pattern for the cultivation of key competencies of geography through comparative experiments.The fifth section is the conclusion,deficiency,and future work.From the perspective of classroom teaching patterns,this study attempts to combine the project-based teaching and teaching pattern design with the goal of cultivating the key competencies of geography.It enriches the research of teaching patterns to a certain extent and it has certain reference significance to classroom teaching.
