As the attention to the psychological problems of primary and secondary school students,the psychological education needs of primary and secondary school students continue to increase,but the development of mental health education in China is still insufficient.As the main executor of school mental health education,teachers of mental health education play an important role in it.Therefore,we must clarify the competence characteristics of mental health education teachers,and use this to construct the competency model of mental health education teachers and develop corresponding measurement tools to scientifically and effectively evaluate mental health education teachers.After combing the relevant literature,it is found that the current research on the competence characteristics of teachers of mental health education,the model construction only excavates the relevant competence characteristics of basic education and psychological counseling.However,according to the definition of mental health education teachers in the new "Outline",primary and secondary school mental health education teachers are also responsible for the development of school mental health education,the construction of the mental health education system,and the role of the mental health education publicity bridge inside and outside the school.Among the competency characteristics required for these job duties,many have a significant role in identifying and predicting the excellent performance of psychology teachers.In addition,with the development of mental health education teachers' work,the differential competence of mental health education teachers has a wider scope,and some mature relevant research results have not been followed up in time,and the relevant competency characteristics need to be adjusted and supplement.Therefore,on the basis of the existing research,this study combined the literature review,frontline mental health teacher behavior event interviews,expert group assessment and other research methods to explore thecompetence characteristics of primary and secondary school mental health education teachers.Using a combination of qualitative research and quantitative research,based on the competence iceberg model,a competency model of primary and secondary school mental health education teachers was constructed.Based on the model construction in this study,a tool for measuring the competence of teachers of mental health education in primary and middle schools was compiled.The following conclusions are drawn:(1)Construct the competency model of mental health education teachers in primary and secondary schools.The model consists of 50 secondary indicators,which constitute the competency characteristics of five primary indicators.They are the professional knowledge(such as psychological knowledge),personal characteristics(such as positive optimism),professional characteristics(such as empathy),skills and abilities(such as coordination)and professional literacy(such as developing school-based curriculum).Among them,professional knowledge and skills and abilities are explicit and easy to measure,which belong to the "above water" part of the iceberg model,while personal characteristics,professional characteristics and professional quality are implicit and not easy to measure,which belong to the "below water" part of the iceberg model.(2)Develop the questionnaire on the characteristics of teachers in mental health education in primary and secondary schools.On the basis of the competency model of mental health education teachers in primary and secondary schools,a competency questionnaire for mental health education teachers in primary and secondary schools is developed.The questionnaire consists of five factors,including 53 items.The dimensions are respectively named as the professional knowledge,skills and abilities,personal characteristics,professional characteristics and professional quality of mental health education teachers in primary and secondary schools.The questionnaire based on five factor structure has good reliability and validity,and each index canmeet the requirements of measurement and statistics.The results of this study have certain theoretical significance and practical value.The result give a advanced development on the competency iceberg model.On the other hand,the competency model of mental health education teachers in primary and secondary schools and the developed measurement tools can be used as an important basis for the recruitment of mental health education teachers in primary and secondary schools,the assessment of teachers' qualifications,and the performance assessment in post recruitment and post evaluation.They can also be used to guide the training of mental health education teachers in primary and secondary schools and the planning of teachers' professional development,which has important application value.
