Research And Survey On Motivation Of University Selection Of International Students Of Southwest University Of Science And Technology

In recent years,with the process of globalization,the increases of China's comprehensive national strength and the expansion of China's international status and influence,studying in China has become the choice of more and more foreign students.On the one hand,universities are facing the opportunity of growth of international students,on the other hand,universities are also facing the challenges that how to be outstanding among competitors.Motivation of university selection is the key factor of studying aboard,so the research of motivation is very important.This paper will take the topic of motivation of university selection,take the foreign students in Southwest University of Science and Technology as the target group of investigation,use the literature review,questionnaires survey,and face to face interview,analysis the differences and relationship between different kinds of motivation and personal factors,then give some suggestions for the university.The first part is introduction of the background,content,purpose,method and significance of the study.Also introduces the literature review and definition of key words.Literature review summaries the overseas and domestic research of international students and motivation of university selection.Definition covers some kinds of explanation of the‘international students' and ‘motivation' and motivation theories.The second part is introduction of survey design and elaboration of reliability and validity test of survey.the survey design part explains the content,target group,recovery and analysis methods of the survey.part three of the study mainly analyzes the results of questionnaires survey,and face to face interview.It includes the descriptive analysis of the basic information of target group,descriptive analysis of the different types of motivation of university selection,and the analysis of differences and relationship between different kinds of motivation and personal factors,which explores the main factors of the motivation of university selection.Through the recording and explanation of the content in the face to face interview,this part summarizes the motivation of interviewee.Part four is conclusion of the study.To illustrate the result of the study and the suggestions of enrollment,education and management of international students and point out some deficiencies of the study and further research suggestions.There are some findings of the research: the motivation is compound,changeable.The dominant factor of the motivation of university selection is urban factors,the followings are school factor,education of school factor and financial factor.The motivation of university selection is influenced by gender and speciality,and nationality and degree have no impact on motivation of university selection.Then main channels for international students to obtain enrollment information mainly come from the introduction of friends or classmates.Basing on the conclusion and combining with the current situation of international students' work in the Southwest University of Science and Technology,there are some suggestions and countermeasures about enrollment,education and management of international students.First of all,university should take more measures to improve the level and quality of enrollment.Such as according to the motivation of university selection of international students,school changes the direction of enrollment publicity,further enrich enrollment information;university should make good use of the name of “China Science and Technology city”,widen enrollment ways and reasonably distribute enrollment rights.Secondly,on the improvement of education of school,university should provide different teaching content,strengthen teachers' standard,provide work-study posts and gradually provide diversified scholarships.finally,university should create better environment,provide individual service,ensure smooth communication channels,and help students overcome cultural differences through rich extracurricular activities.
