The current study used literature data,comparative research,case analysis and statistic models to investigate the basic concepts,development environment(political,economic,social and technological)and profit model of e-sports,and examine the potential impact of the development environment on the profit model for e-sports.In the new era of economic restructure in China,cultural industry innovation is an important component and supporting element of the economic restructuring.As a new rising industry,e-sports is experiencing a period of rapid development and has an increasingly important influence on sports,business and culture.However,there is room for improvement in the policy,economy,social and technical environment related to e-sports.The profit model still needs further development,and there is the possibility of learning from other developed countries in e-sports.Under the current circumstance,the research on the relationship between the e-sports development environment and the profit model in the new era can provide more comprehensive support for improving the e-sports development and promote the innovation of the e-sports profit model.Through this research,we intend to achieve three goals:(1)to clarify the development environment of Chinese e-sports from the perspectives of politics,economy,society and technology,(2)to examine the impact of the development environment on the profit model for e-sports,and(3)to provide a comprehensive foundation,theoretical support and constructive opinions for the future development of a healthy development environment for e-sports.Through relevant research,the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)Policy Environment: A full government support is the basic assurance for the continued profit of e-sports.From 2003 to 2018,the e-sports policy environment has undergone continuous changes with the development of e-sports projects.In particular,the report of the 19 th Communist Party Congress presents a new historical position for China's development – a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the state support in the policy for cultural innovation and sports has been significantly strengthened.In 2016,the total size of the e-sports market was RMB 50 billion;in 2017,its total size became RMB 90.8 billion,an annual growth rate of over80%.(2)Economic Environment: The country's overall economic situation is steadily improving,which is the internal driving force for the profit development of e-sports.In the early days of the burgeoning e-sports,e.g.,in 1997,the entire Asia was in a financial crisis.China's exports fell sharply,domestic demand was insufficient,and GDP did not rise compared to 1996.In such a historical period of the economic time,the whole country paid far less attention to culture,innovation and sports than investment,consumption and exports.Entering the new era in recent years,China's economy has maintained a growth rate of more than 6% for a long time.In particular,the growth rate of the tertiary industry exceeds the growth rate of GPD,providing an economic dividend for the profit of e-sports.(3)Social Environment: Constantly striving for social identity is fundamental to the sustainability of the e-sports profit model.A broad audience is the foundation for a sport's continued development and a guarantee for a sport's commercialization and profit.Since entering the new era,China's e-sports club has achieved outstanding results in some international competitions,and e-sports has gradually appeared in the public eye with a positive image.Before the Asian Games in Jakarta,the official Weibo of the People's Daily also encouraged the e-sports national team to participate.The establishment of e-sports profit model is welcoming the tolerance and affirmation of society.(4)Technical Environment: The continuous development of digital technology is the core driving force for the innovation of the e-sports profit model.In 2015,the live broadcast platform represented by YY began to appear,effectively solving the problem that the e-sports projects were banned from broadcasting on the radio and television channels,or delayed on video websites.Since the new era,the mobile internet and hardware devices have provided more carriers for the e-sports,as well as a platform for the innovation of the e-sports profit model. |
