| Education is very important for a nation. The government pointed out in the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19 th Central Committee that we should build a strong nation in the fields of education, human resources and culture, and strengthen the soft power of national culture,at the same time,we should continue to improve the level and efficiency of economic development during the 14 th Five-Year Plan period.Education plays an increasingly important role in economic development, which has attracted the attention of scholars from all walks of life. However, there are few studies on the mechanism of education investment in economic growth and the heterogeneity among regions. Therefore, this paper collects the data of Chinese provinces from 2003-2018,uses econometric models and combines the relevant knowledge of statistics to explore the impact of education investment on China’s economic growth, and provides reference suggestions for upgrading the scale and structure of China’s education investment,so as to promote China’s regional economic development. The research scopes of this paper include: the first chapter outlines the background and significance of this thesis, the current situation of research on investment in education for economic growth,as well as the research ideas and innovations of the full text. The second chapter defines the three aspects of education funding, transformation of universities scientific research achievements, and economic growth, analyzes the influencing factors of economic growth at the national level through descriptive statistics, and analyzes the regional differences of education fund investment in each school section. The third chapter focuses on the dynamic change of higher education funding structure through the malquist Gini index. The fourth chapter uses the fixed effect model to investigate whether there are differences in the impact of education funds on regional economic growth. The fifth chapter introduces spatial factors and uses spatial Dobbin model to analyze the spatial spillover effect of education funds on China’s economic growth. The sixth chapter analyzes the regional effect of the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in Colleges and universities on economic growth on the basis of the research in the third chapter. The seventh chapter summarizes the conclusions of the full text and puts forward relevant policy suggestions. The research conclusions of this paper include:(1)investment in capital, primary education, and junior high school education promotes economic growth in the eastern, central, and western regions;investment in senior high school education does not significantly drive economic growth in the three economic regions;investment in secondary vocational school education contributes significantly to economic growth in the eastern and western regions, but has little impact on the central region;investment in higher education contributes to economic growth in the east and central regions. It is obvious that the investment in higher education promotes economic growth in the east and central regions, but has few impact on the western area.(2)The regional disparity in education expenditure of each school section shows a trend of narrowing with small fluctuations, and the regional disparity in education expenditure of elementary school and higher education schools is relatively balanced, and the regional disparity in education expenditure of other school sections is also within a reasonable range, but the difference of high school education expenditure on the total Gini coefficient promotes increase;capital investment, general elementary school, general high schools, secondary vocational schools and general higher education school education expenditure have a positive influence on the economic economic progress of the province and neighboring provinces. There are positive effects on the economic development of both the province and the neighboring provinces;there is a negative spatial spillover effect of labor input on the economic progress of the adjacent provinces.(3)There is a non-linear relationship between the transformation of scientific and technological achievements of colleges and universities and economic development. When the threshold variable is the ratio of students to teachers in higher education, the values of total factor productivity in the central and western provinces change from negative to positive, while the coefficient of total factor productivity in eastern region decreases from negative to positive and then increases. When the threshold variable is per capita education expenditure, the results are basically the same as when the threshold variable is higher education student-teacher ratio. |
