With the rapid spread of economic globalization in the world, the arrival of the era of knowledge-based economy has profoundly affected higher education, and reshaped its traditional mission and function in the form of space-time compression. In China, the functions of scientific research and social service of universities have new derivative forms:the issue of integration of industry,University and research, the mission of transformation of scientific and technological achievements of contemporary universities, and the encouragement of part-time and part-time salaries of university teaching and research personnel by the state.Such policy requirements ultimately promote the formation and establishment of academic capitalism in China. In the process of academic marketization, the behavior of master's tutors, especially those of science and engineering tutors, has changed:they tend to perfunctory teaching, engage in academic income-generating activities and undertake commercial horizontal topics. The prominence of self-interest goal changes the academic environment of master students. Therefore,in the environment of academic capitalism,Master of Science and Engineering students and tutors present new group status and individual role characteristics in teaching, scientific research and social services. It is necessary to study the roles of master of science and engineering students and tutors in the academic capitalist environment, describe the status quo of their roles, and reveal their subsequent impacts. This is not only helpful for instructors and graduates to grasp the balance between academia and market in future academic activities, but also related to their long-term development. It is also related to the academic attitude of University researchers and the cultivation of innovative high-level technical talents in the future, which has practical significance. At the same time,it is of great urgency and practical significance to promote the deepening of China's reform,to promote academic capitalism to better serve higher education, and thus to achieve the goal of serving the socialist economy.Firstly, this paper describes the general roles of science and engineering master students and mentors. The mentors are mostly teachers, scholars and researchers, while the master students are mostly learners, research assistants and enterprise interns.By introducing the connotation of academic capitalism and taking the teaching, scientific research and social service of science and engineering master students as the breakthrough point, this paper summarizes the role characteristics of science and engineering master students and tutors in the environment of academic capitalism by means of questionnaire survey and interview.Compared with the past, tutors are no longer confined to the status of professors, but are developing to multiple roles.Students'roles are diminishing, such as utilitarianism and socialization;tutors and master students coexist with multiple roles;academic circles cooperate and compete in pursuit of win-win situation.Thereafter, the article continues to discuss the positive and negative effects of this role:academic capitalism enables the tutors to realize their personal value and gives them the opportunity to contact the society in advance;at the same time,it also causes the gap between different disciplines within the university to deepen, many tutors from the university professor status to overstep, and the career of graduate students has been disrupted. At the end of the article,we think about the internal risks of academic activities:academic impetuosity, misconduct and corruption;breaking the internal ecological balance of academic research;the progress and risks of academic research;and the responsibility system of graduate tutors to be improved.
