Purpose: The aim of the study was to determine the influence of ice slurry on thermoregulation in the heat and try to investigate an effective way to prevent heat stroke in the heat by measuring the core body temperature and skin temperature of male endurance athletes after ingestion of ice slurry.Method: The study used experimental method.Twelve subjects volunteered to participate in this study,each of them performed two trials which named ice slurry exercise trial(Trial-ICE)and control exercise trial(Trail-CON),there are at least seven days interval between two trials.In TrailICE,subjects ingested 7.5 g/kg body mass of ice slurry(-0.32 ±0.19 ℃)in 30 minutes before exercise,while in Trail-CON,subjects ingested 7.5 g/kg body mass of cold drink(9.27±1.54 ℃)in30 minutes before exercise.The time of ingestion should be 30 minutes before exercise,20 minutes before exercise and 10 minutes before exercise.Subjects exercised to exhaustion on a cycle ergometer with an increasing load in both two trials in the heat(temperature: 32.88 ± 0.41 ℃,humidity: 65.23±2.42 %).The initial load of cycle was 100 W,it would increase 20 W every 10 minutes with a pedaling cadence of 60 rmp.Throughout the trails,rectal temperature(core body temperature),skin temperature(including arm,chest and leg),heart rate,RPE,thermal sensation,body mass(before and after each trial),minutes to exhaustion was recorded.And the mean skin temperature was calculated.Result:(1)At the end of pre-cooling stage,the core body temperature in Trial-ICE decreased by(0.11±0.16)℃,while the core body temperature increased by(0.07±0.11)℃ in Trial-CON,P<0.05.During exercise stage,the core body temperature in Trial-ICE(37.95±0.45 ℃)was lower than it in Trial-CON(38.09±0.41 ℃),P<0.01.(2)In pre-cooling stage,the mean skin temperature in Trial-ICE(35.01±0.03 ℃)was higher than it in Trial-CON(34.89±0.02 ℃),P<0.01.In exercise stage,the mean skin temperature in Trial-ICE(36.07±0.78 ℃)was higher than it in Trial-CON(35.96±0.82 ℃),P<0.01.(3)The heart rate in Trial-ICE decreased by(5.83±8.02)bpm at the end of pre-cooling than it at the beginning of pre-cooling.(4)The time to exhaustion in Trial-ICE(41.50±8.51 min)was longer than it in Trial-CON(38.08±8.95 min),P<0.05.The dehydration was significantly related to the time to exhaustion(Trial-ICE r=0.78,P<0.01;Trial-CON r=0.59,P<0.05).Subjects felt significantly lower thermalsensation both in the pre-cooling stage and at the time of 5min,15 min and 20 min in exercise stage,P<0.05.Conclusion:(1)The ingestion of ice slurry can reduce core body temperature of male endurance athletes during the pre-cooling and exercise stage in the heat.(2)The ingestion of ice slurry can reduce heart rate of male endurance athletes during the precooling stage in the heat.(3)The ingestion of ice slurry can increase the exercise capacity of male endurance athletes in the heat,so that it can prolong the time to exhaustion and delay the appearance of fatigue.
