The Effect Of Working Memory Training On Reading Comprehension Of Primary School Students

As the core component of working memory,central executive system has the functions of inhibition,refresh and transformation.Most studies suggest that training central executive system in these functions can improve central executive function and working memory,and transfer to fluid intelligence and reading comprehension.Reading comprehension,as an advanced cognitive activity,is the basis of other learning activities and one of the most important learning abilities of primary school students.It is of great significance to the development of pupils' thinking and the improvement of their intelligence.This study selects three classes with similar average reading comprehension scores from the fourth grade of a primary school,and randomly selects one class as the inhibition group,one class as the refresh group,and one class as the control group.Each group has30 participants.The inhibition group and the refresh group were trained on working memory inhibition and refresh function for 4 weeks,20 days in total;while the control group was trained in information technology and other irrelevant areas.Through the comparative analysis of the working memory and reading comprehension of each group of students before and after the training,we find that the training of working memory inhibition and refresh function could improve reading comprehension of primary school students.The results are as follow:1.Working memory refresh,inhibition function training and training results were significantly related.The effect of working memory inhibition training was remarkable.And the training effect of working memory refresh function was distinct.The students' working memory score after the training was higher than that before the training,which indicates the training tasks of Working Memory Training Software V2.0 for Children and Working Memory Interference Suppression Training Software 1.58 for Children can affect the inhibition,refresh function of working memory.2.The training of working memory refresh and inhibition function could significantly improve the performance of reading comprehension.There was a significant difference in the scores of reading comprehension tests before and after the refreshment and inhibition training.The results of reading comprehension after training were significantly higher than those before the training.3.The training of working memory refresh and inhibition function can improve the grasp of key information,the scores of several factors,context understanding and coherent reasoning,layout design.After the training,the scores of several factors,such as context understanding and coherent reasoning,key information grasp and layout design,were significantly higher than those before the training.4.The effects of working memory refresh and inhibition functional training on the reading comprehension of pupils were effective for a long time,and still had an effect after one month.
