The mathematics curriculum of primary school in our country pays attention to the cultivation of students’ arithmetic thinking,but turns into solving problems by using algebraic thinking in junior high school.This transition makes it difficult for the mathematics study during the primary to junior high school period.The education of "simple equation" in primary school is not only an important period for the transition from arithmetic thinking to algebraic thinking but also critical stage for the understand evolution from “quantity” to “relationship” for the pupils.Therefore,the education of “simple equation” plays a significant role in the cultivating of students’ algebraic thinking ability.This research is carried out from the training of students’ algebraic thinking,based on the education of “simple equation” course in the mathematics textbook of primary school.Questionnaire serveries and interviews from students and teachers are applied in this research for the insight into the education of “simple equation” in primary school.The research shows that there are mainly five factors for the education of “simple equation”.First,the pupils show no interest in “simple equation”;second,the students have weak consciousness for the mathematics symbols;third,the children are unable to find the equations according to the questions;fourth,the teachers have not shown the advantage of the algebraic thinking thoroughly;fifth,the cultivation of algebraic thinking is ignored by the teachers.After the thoroughly consideration of “simple equation”,a instructional design is proposed and applied for the mathematics education which is based on investigation result and relevant literature for algebraic thinking education.According to the investigation result and the improvement of education practice,the education strategies are proposed for the cultivation of pupils’ “algebraic thinking”.Multiple teaching method shall be applied to inspire students’ interest in equation study;excavate the mathematics textbook,highlight the essence of equation education;cultivation students’ symbolic consciousness through “three level”;pay attention to the “=” in the equation,demonstrate the present of “=” and “relationship”;seek out the equal relationship,improve students’ ability of find the equation;help students to understand the advantage of equation during solving the classic questions.
