With the popularization and perfection of computer network,communication facilities and educational technology,distance higher education plays an important role in realizing the goal of lifelong learning.As the highest level of distance higher education system,Distance graduate education carries the important task of cultivating professionals with higher level and higher degre of experitise.In our country,distance higher education is considered as a practical means to provide "compensation education" for a long time,and provide education for the people who missed the opportunity to accept higher education.But the problem is that the distance graduate education has not been carried out in our country.The voice of starting distance graduate education is louder as the in-depth practice of building a lifelong learning society and building a powerful country of human resources in China.After nearly three decades of development,American distance graduate education has proved to the world that it provides quality education.Therefore,this paper taking American distance graduate education as the research problem in order to improve the level of modern distance education and deepen the discussion on the reform and development of graduate education and teaching in our country.It takes into account the unity of history and reality,and considers many kinds of domestic and international factors,mainly adopts comparative method,factor analysis method,content analysis method.This paper first document the history of distance graduate education in the United States.Secondly,it analyzes the current situation of distance graduate education in America from the organization structure of distance graduate education,admissions,teacher,modern distance Curriculum,pedagogy and distance graduate education evaluation,then it refines the characteristics and problems of American distance graduate.Finally,it also compares the reasons for the rapid development of American distance graduate education and the reasons for the slow progress of distance graduate education in China,and it use the comprehensive analysis of the successful experience within distance graduate education in American to make recommendations to the exploration of distance graduate education in China.
