Basic Research In The Construction Of Competitiveness Of Chinese University

The current increasingly fierce competition in universities not only carries the organizational pressure to promote higher levels of the university itself,but also reflects the social needs of building an innovative country.How to construct competitiveness has become a serious challenge facing Chinese universities.For university organizations with knowledge production and dissemination as their core mission,returning to organizational traits to respect the law of competition has become an important choice for turning challenges into opportunities.The nature of non-profit and the long-term tradition of public funding have contributed to the great attention and pursuit of reputation by university organizations.The current competitive situation around the level of scientific research reminds university organizations that the competitiveness of construction should be based on improving the competitiveness of scientific research.As an important part of university research,basic research has continuously carried out academic innovation activities to increase the total amount of knowledge,and has played a fundamental role in improving the level of scientific research and building a good reputation in universities,and exerting the role of basic research in the construction of university competitiveness.It is not only a profound understanding of the organizational characteristics of the university,but also an accurate grasp of the current law of competition in the university.Since the reform and opening up,the basic research development of Chinese universities has made great progress compared with the previous ones,but it also faces some dilemmas,which are concentrated on the lack of basic research funds,the lack of first-class talents and the lack of major original innovations.These problems are not only the main performance of the relatively lagging development of university basic research in China,but also an important reason that affects the competitiveness of Chinese universities.It has negatively affected the improvement of the competitiveness of Chinese universities.The causes of these problems are complex.Academic capitalism is an important background that cannot be ignored.It not only interferes with the basic research outside the university organization,but also collides with the administrative forces to squeeze out the academic research of the university.At the same time,these non-academic forces also alienate the internal philosophy of the university organization.The resulting unreasonable scientific research management system has promoted the transfer of teachers' scientific research preferences to a certain extent,which has reduced the possibility of the birth of basic research talents and major original innovations,and weakened the role of basic research in the construction of university competitiveness.In order to improve the competitiveness of Chinese universities,Chinese universities should re-examine the important role of basic research in the construction of university competitiveness and improve the factors that hinder the development of basic research.Through the analysis of Harvard University's competitiveness construction process and its characteristics,it is believed that the construction of university competitiveness in China can start from strengthening basic research,aiming at the financial problems existing in the current basic research and development of universities in China,and the lack of talents and achievements.From adhering to the concept of academic-oriented,building a scientific research management mechanism based on trust,opening up a diversified source of basic research funding and improving the scientific evaluation system.
